Who are we?

Ontdek Emmen is the go-to platform for residents, visitors, and tourists in the municipality of Emmen. The Ontdek Emmen brand and this website are an initiative of and are managed by the Emmen Promotion Foundation.

What information do we collect, and why?

We process your data only if we have a valid reason and a valid legal basis for doing so. Below, you can read about the situations in which we do so.

Contact Us

If you send us an email, fill out the contact form, or contact us via
or social media, we will receive your information (such as your name, email address, and your message).

  • Purpose: to be able to respond politely to your question or comment.
  • Retention period: We do not retain this information for longer than is necessary to handle your inquiry.
  • Legal basis: Depending on the nature of the contact, our legitimate interest in answering questions or taking steps at your request prior to entering into a contract.

Newsletter

Would you like to sign up for our newsletter? If so, we’ll ask for your email address and, if you’d like, your name.

  • Goal: to keep you up to date on the best events, tips, and the latest news from Emmen.
  • Retention period: We retain your data for as long as you remain subscribed. At the bottom of each newsletter, you’ll find a link that allows you to unsubscribe immediately.
  • Legal basis: your consent.
  • We use Mailchimp to send out our newsletters.

Forms on the website

When you fill out a form on our website, we collect the information you enter.

We use this information to process your request, registration, or submission. This may include, for example, a contact request or participation in a promotion. We do not retain this information for longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, unless there is a legal obligation to retain it.

Are you uploading your images using the form? If so, please make sure the files do not contain any location data (EXIF data, such as GPS location data). This is because visitors can download these images once they are published on the website.

Quotes and Invoices

Are you working with us and requesting a quote, or are we sending you an invoice? In that case, we will process the necessary business and personal data. We retain quotes until the project is completed. By law, we are required to retain invoices for 7 years for tax records.

Legal basis: performance of a contract or taking steps prior to entering into a contract, and, for legal record-keeping, a legal obligation.
